"Plein Air" Prep Part 2 and Demo by Carol Mathewson - March NAG Meeting 2019

Last Fall, the Niagara Arts Guild welcomed Niagara Frontier Plein Air Painters member Carol Mathewson as she gave a demonstration on the preparation and equipment used in Plein Air Landscape painting.

This month Carol returned with Plein Air Part 2 to demonstrate her painting technique, as well as continuing with educating and answering questions about the ins and outs of Plein Air painting.

An interesting fact about Carol's painting process; While she is using oil paint for her landscape during this demo, she very often starts with a base coat of acrylic red on her canvases.

----------

Because Plein Air painting is all about leaving the art studio to go out and paint what you see in nature, it comes with several unique challenges. Carol continued on by showing us some of the newer tools she's acquired for transporting her supplies out in the field and how deal with the sun and weather. She also gave recommendations for safety when you're painting in secluded spaces (don't paint alone), how to deal with distractions from crowds if you happen to be in heavy foot traffic or tourist locations, as well as demonstrating ways to transport wet paintings back to the studio when you're done for the day.

Glad to have you back again this month Carol.
Thank you for the demonstration and all of the helpful information.

Arts Guild member and Secretary Nona McQuay also continued on with the, “Artist Remembered”,  series, giving a presentation on the life and work of WNY painter Bjarne Klassen, including examples from the, “Bjarne Klaussen Collection”, which are on display at the Lewiston public library. ~ Thanks for the great presentation Nona!

The Niagara Arts Guild meets every third Friday of the month, at the Dale Center in Lockport NY, with presentations and Art demos at every meeting - New members welcome!
