Plein Air Oil Painting Demo by Jeff Watkins - September NAG Meeting 2019

It's the start of another season with the Niagara Arts Guild!

Our September meeting featured local  artist Jeff Watkins, as he demonstrated some of his innovative techniques in oil painting.

A Lockport artist and sign painter, Watkins is a listed artist at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center and his work is published in several books. His oil paintings are done on location to capture light and atmosphere quickly. He enjoys painting landscapes of common places that often go unnoticed. Watkins also paints signs with hand lettering and gold leaf.

For his Arts Guild demonstration, Watkins created an oil painting from one of his previous Plein Air Watercolor pieces.

Art demonstrations are more about educating on the techniques and learned tricks of each medium than they are finishing an entire piece within a meeting, but one of the marvels of this demo was the speed at which Jeff was able to recreate his compositions.
