Photographer Vince Agnello - October NAG Meeting 2019

At our October meeting, NAG hosted a presentation by Vince Agnello. A Professor of Law and Business at Niagara University, artistically he describes himself as a, "Novice Photographer". Although it seems that most guild members would agree that by the depths and details of Agnello's body of work, he is by no means a beginner.

Every photograph had it's own interesting backstory. Hiking through the woods looking for waterfalls, asking passing couples to pose for silhouette shots in Rome, being yelled for being in a museum garden while trying to take the perfect shot of a flower in the museum garden,...To sum up a few.

Agnello also recounted how his work and sales strategy have evolved since he started with photography in 2010. Many artists can relate to his experiences with shows. The good, the weird, the variety of customers he's encountered.

One of the more technical aspects of Agnello's work is how he switched from framed prints to larger scale canvas and metal printing.

Several examples were shown. The same photo, but one on canvas and the other metal print.

Both materials have their pros and cons. As we learned, metal can have a glare and the edges can be sharp, but the colors are vivid and a metal print can be displayed outdoors, and in the sunlight, without much wear and tear over time. Meanwhile Canvas can warp, but it can also be re-stretched if it does, and it turns a photograph into an upscale art piece.

Agnello's wife accompanied him for parts of this presentation, to assist with a surprise giveaway. As it turns out some of Agnello's photography work has been featured on chocolate produced by Niagara's Honeymoon Sweets. So at the end of the night there was a small drawing and one of our lucky guild members got to take home some sweet treats.

The Niagara Arts Guild would like to Thank Vince Agnello for his fun and fascinating presentation this month. (Thank you!)
